MINGLE: 4th of July Weekend in Palm Beach County

So, 4th of July weekend is pretty much here and while I may just be at home thoroughly engrossed in my toe wiggling fascination… you, just may be wondering what there is to do about town.

One event that’s caught my eye is the 3rd of July Celebration in downtown Lake Worth.  Mostly because of the homemade American Pie contest.  If you’re interested in participating, contact Michele Bell of 531 East Boutique at 561-249-2524 for details.  The festival takes place from 11am to 6pm, with the pie contest at 2pm.

Next, Norton Museum of Art has the “Out of this World: Extraordinary Costumes from Film and Television” on display from now until September 4th.  The best thing about this, besides seeing over 30 costumes from movie & TV programs such as Batman & Stark Trek is that admission to the museum is FREE (gratis) to West Palm Beach residents each & every Saturday and to Palm Beach County residents the first Saturday of every month.  That’s reason enough to check it out.  Also on display is “Eternal China: Tales from the Crypt”, now until July 17th.

Another freebie of sorts, on July 5th from 4-10pm, Okeechobee Steakhouse will provide one complimentary New York Strip Steak Dinner with a purchase of an adult entree from their dinner menu (equal or greater value).

As usual, you can catch fireworks in places like 4th on Flagler, this year the theme is “the American West”.  Not sure what the fascination has been with Downtown this year and western, but it should prove to be entertaining at the very least.  The event is from 5-10pm.

Another option is to head over to TravelZoo where you can purchase a voucher to dine at Spoto’s Oyster Bar in Palm Beach Gardens.  Worth $128, you pay only $59.  This covers a 3-course meal for two and includes: any two appetizer, any two entrees, a shared dessert and two glasses of wine.  Deal ends 8PM on July 4th and can be redeemed starting July 5th through December 15th, 2011.

Sunday night you can dance the night away at Blue Martini for Island Vibes.  Supposedly a portion of the money received from this event will be donated to Children of Jamaica Outreach Charity.  So, I just may step a toe over to enjoy some live reggae music.  DJ Lennox will be spinning the tunes.  This event is held every Sunday.

There’s also the 4th of July fireworks cruise aboard the Hakuna Matata.  The cruise leaves the Riviera Beach marina at 7:30pm and costs $50.

Happy 4th, you guys.
